ABOUT US: Our Team — Our Board — Partners — Our History
The Mildmay Community Centre (formally the Mayville) was originally built in the early 1900s to house generators for the tram network.
Left derelict in the late 1960s, the building came into being as a community centre when local residents lobbied Islington Council for possession of the building in the 1970s. Residents then ran the centre on a voluntary basis for approximately 10years. In the early 1980s Islington Council took over the management of the centre but invested little time in improving the fabric of the building or its management. It became clear in the late 1990s that the centre needed to be managed independently of Islington Council for it to achieve its potential as a hub of activities and service provision. Residents lobbied for the management of the centre to be given to an independent voluntary resident-led organisation.
In 2006 the community centre was transferred to Mildmay Community Partnership (MCP). MCP is a community-led organisation and works primarily in the ward of Mildmay which is located within the London Borough of Islington. MCP has been a legal entity since 2004 and is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee.
