Dom
Project Coordinator

Welcome to the Mildmay Community Food Project, an initiative focusing on providing education and support around regenerative food growing. Our project consists of a small-scale operational market garden with a plant nursery, seed bank, composting area, teaching space, and microscopy area. These sites are used to demonstrate the power of sustainable food growing in an inner-city context.

Our vision

Our vision is to contribute to developing a thriving network of community market gardens and urban farms across London that will nourish our communities, revitalize our neighbourhoods, creating local economies, and fostering opportunities to develop a deeper connection to our natural world. We aspire to participate in helping develop inner-city food systems that empower communities to grow and sell their own produce using regenerative farming techniques.

Our Mission

We are committed to:

  • Educating the public about organic, sustainable food growing practices.
  • Providing hands-on experience through workshops and volunteering opportunities.
  • Developing community infrastructure and skills that lead to job creation and building local economies.
  • Promoting healthier eating habits and food security.
  • Building a more resilient and sustainable future for our communities.
  • Creating spaces that contribute to improving physical, social, and mental well-being.

Our Approach

We believe that inner-city food growing will play an important role in building more sustainable and equitable futures. By reimagining unused green spaces, we can bring food production into our cities; reduce our reliance on industrial agricultural systems dependent on chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and fungicides; delink from carbon intensive supply chains; create training opportunities and jobs; and improve access to fresh, healthy food at affordable prices and build local economies which keep money in our communities.

We are committed to sharing our knowledge and expertise with people interested in regenerative farming practices and building local food systems. We offer a range of programs and resources, including:

What we do

  • Workshops on organic gardening techniques, seed saving, composting, and soil science.
  • Volunteering opportunities to get involved in hands-on gardening and food production.
  • School programs that teach children about the importance of sustainable food growing and its relationship to health and well-being.
  • Community events that bring people together to celebrate the bounty of our urban farms.
  • Market garden tours which enable individuals (e.g., members of the public, teachers, community organisers, politicians, architects) and groups (community centres and non-profit organizations) to learn from our model and replicate similar sustainable practices within their own communities.

How You Can Get Involved:

We invite you to join us in our mission to transform our food system and create a more sustainable future.

  • Visit and work with us! We operate a small-scale organic market garden at the Mildmay Community Centre. Learn about regenerative farming techniques and gain experience growing produce from seed to harvest.
  • Drop-in volunteer sessions every Thursday from 10am – 1pm.
